I am presently a volunteer because my husband was given loving care by the wonderful staff at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

- Gerry Lehne, patient family member and volunteer.

Complimentary Therapies

As part of the plan of care, Cedar Valley Hospice offers a variety of supplemental techniques to benefit patient needs.

Music Therapy

Music therapy is provided to reduce pain and anxiety, improve communication, and to allow the patient and family to renew past memories. By listening to their choice of music, playing an instrument, or by simply talking about their life's music experience and meaning, music therapy offers an opportunity to bring up and seek closure on important end-of-life issues.

Massage Therapy

Hand and foot massages are provided as part of the care plan by hospice aides. Licensed, therapeutic massage therapists are available, as needed, to alleviate symptoms of pain and anxiety and to promote comfort for individuals.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy assists with anxiety, treating stress and insomnia, improving memory, and alleviating sorrow and depression. The treatment involves using essential oils applied directly by massage or by releasing scents into the air.

"I learned I could get grief counseling at Cedar Valley Hospice although we never got to enter hospice. From my experience on a CISD team I knew I needed help. I walked into the office and was able to get one-on-one counseling. The counseling was extremely beneficial…"

husband of Maxine and former firefighter/EMT who often transported patients to the Hospice Home.
